‘A King and His Movie’

Argentina, 1986, 104 minutes , 10 p.m. A great idea that falls short: A fiery young Argentine cineaste conceives a grand epic on the mad king of Patagonia. But the production loses its financing, and his cast and crew abandon him in the desert, until he’s reduced to subjective shots and symbolism with dummies. First-time director Carlos Sorin has visual flair, but the production goes crazy too fast. There’s definitely something picturesquely funny buried in here.
