Nixon on Pardoning North, Poindexter
In response to “Nixon Would Pardon North and Poindexter,” (Part I, April 11):
It seems former President Richard Nixon has not learned the proper use of presidential pardons despite the widespread furor over his own pardon issued by President Gerald Ford. To pardon former White House aides Oliver North and John Poindexter, and perhaps others, because they had “no criminal intent” would invite future instances where public officials totally disregard or evade the law. Nixon’s logic is badly flawed, but consistent for a man who received an ill-advised presidential pardon.
North and Poindexter knowingly broke the law--they should willingly pay the price!
