Recall Initiative for Laguna Beach

Share

Re letter from Harry Moon (March 27) entitled “Recall No, Public Relations, Yes”:

First, I would like to point out that the recall will not cost $40,000. The recall initiative, if successful, will appear on the November ballot along with the regular election.

Second, Moon would have the Laguna Beach City Council throw good taxpayers’ money after bad. After all the money the City Council has already spent defending itself in lawsuits due to their irresponsible actions, he thinks we need a PR firm to explain our government to us.

The people of Laguna Beach are well-acquainted with the City Council’s selective implementation of “unique restrictions.” The problem is that these vague “restrictions” are unique because they are applied in a completely arbitrary, contradictory way. I have seen the Design Review Board use “I don’t like it” as a reason to deny people the right to build or remodel on their own private property.

Our city is a unique, diverse place, and I think most of us who live here would like to see it stay that way. But if the DRB continues to dictate what kind of design, materials and colors we can all use, aren’t they squelching the creativity Laguna is famous for?

It’s too late for prevention. It’s time for a change.
