Miami’s Joe Robbie Stadium is the leader among U.S. facilities bidding to become the host for a possible staging of the 1994 World Cup finals, an official of soccer’s governing body said.

“It’s a magnificent stadium that has everything,” said Ernie Walker, a member of FIFA’s five-member technical committee. “It has to be considered the leader so far.”

The United States is competing with Brazil and Morocco to hold the world’s largest sporting event. Italy is scheduled to be the host for the 52-game, monthlong tournament in 1990.
