Eastman Kodak Co. has given its Panamanian work force a 15-day paid furlough because of the extreme difficulty in doing business there, a spokesman for the Rochester, N.Y.-based company reported. The catalyst for the shutdown of Kodak’s marketing facility, retail film and camera shops and mini-lab processing centers was last Friday’s economic sanctions imposed by President Reagan, said Kodak spokesman Henry Kaska. “We weren’t ordered to close, but it just doesn’t make sense to stay open,” Kaska said. The sanctions were ordered April 8 by Reagan in an effort to force military leader Manuel Antonio Noriega to surrender his hold on Panama. They include prohibiting payments to the Noriega regime by all U.S. citizens and organizations in Panama.
