Apple Computer Inc. is expected to report a hefty increase in quarterly sales and profits based largely on the popularity of its Macintosh personal computers, analysts said. Their predictions of the company’s second-quarter earnings, to be announced this week, ranged between 53 and 58 cents a share on revenues of between $825 and $850 million. During the second quarter last year, the company reported a profit of 26 cents a share, or $34 million, on revenues of $575 million.
