Meese Again Faces Grand Jury
WASHINGTON — Atty. Gen. Edwin Meese III appeared today before a federal grand jury for the fifth time in connection with a criminal investigation of his activities which began nearly a year ago.
Meese was to answer questions from prosecutors in the office of independent counsel James McKay. McKay has been delving into a $40,000-a-year job for Meese’s wife, Ursula; Meese’s involvement with a $1-billion Iraqi oil pipeline; the attorney general’s ownership of $14,000 in regional Bell Telephone stock, and Meese’s ties to scandal-plagued Wedtech Corp.
