Changes in Weather, Air Pollution Reports
Today’s editions of The Times include expanded air quality and weather almanac information as daily features.
The air quality chart, which has reflected hourly air pollution for the previous day, now will incorporate air quality forecasts for three pollutants--ozone, nitrogen dioxide and carbon monoxide. Today, the chart appears on Page 4 of this section.
The hourly air pollution readings have been changed to reflect the same pollutant standard index used in forecasts. Horizontal lines depict three major break points in measuring pollution levels--the federal standard (100 PSI), first-stage episode (200) and second-stage episode (275).
The weather page also includes a new almanac that displays climatological data for Los Angeles, Santa Ana, San Diego and San Francisco as well as tide tables and sun and moon rising and setting times. Tide tables are for the outer harbor in Los Angeles.
Surf forecasts and coastal reports from the previous day have been combined into a single feature titled SURF AND SEA.
