Dane Premier Calls Early Ballot
Conservative Prime Minister Poul Schluter today called early general elections, saying a socialist-sponsored law tightening a ban on nuclear armed warships threatened Denmark’s NATO membership.
Schluter, 59, announced in Parliament that national elections will be held May 10 because his four-party non-Socialist minority coaliton cannot live with the law pushed through by the Social Democrat-led oppositon last week. “The motion adopted by this Parliament on April 14 endangers our full membershipo of NATO,” Schluter said.
