A measure that would allow casino gambling on Alcatraz Island is no better than a long-shot to make it onto the ballot, because a third San Francisco supervisor has withdrawn his support. Supervisor Harry Britt dropped his backing, leaving just three board members in favor of the advisory measure, Proposition N. Four supervisors need to sign the proposal to qualify it for the June 7 election. “I would not have put this thing on (the ballot) in the first place, because it’s simply not going to happen,” Britt said. “There are existing environmental protections that make gambling at Alcatraz impossible and I would never advocate for casinos.” Britt said he decided to withdraw his support because two other supervisors removed their names in the last few weeks.
