Serial killer William Heirens, who begged police more than 40 years ago to “catch me before I kill more,” was denied parole for the 28th time. In announcing its decision, the 12-member Illinois Prisoner Review Board in Springfield said Heirens, the longest-serving inmate in the state prison system, will next be eligible for parole in April, 1991. The 60-year-old inmate is serving three life sentences at the Vienna Correctional Center for killing two Chicago women and a 6-year-old girl. He was a 17-year-old student at the University of Chicago when the murders were committed. Heirens, who appeared at the parole hearing, told the board he had been rehabilitated in prison and should be set free.
