POP LP CHART : No ‘Dancing’ Duo at the Top

“Faith” foiled “Dirty Dancing’s” record-setting plans. The George Michael album sneaked past “More Dirty Dancing” (No. 3) into the No. 2 spot on the Billboard magazine pop album chart. So “Dirty Dancing” (No. 1) and the sequel will have to try again next week to be the first sound tracks to claim the top pop positions simultaneously. Midnight Oil’s album “Diesel and Dust” is a surprise hit (No. 35). Cher’s album, “Cher” (No. 39), was dropping down the chart until it got a boost both from her hit single “We All Sleep Alone” (No. 40) and from her best-actress Oscar win. Pop singles: Whitney Houston’s “Where Do Broken Hearts Go” is still the No. 1 single; Taylor Dayne, proving she’s no flash in the pan, has her second Top 10 single with “Prove Your Love” (No. 8), and Brenda Russell has a hit single with “Piano in the Dark” (No. 21).

* On the chart nearly a year, “Let It Loose” by the Miami hit machine is still going strong, thanks to its latest hit single, “Anything for You” (No. 5). The album shot up seven notches to No. 20.
