Heart attack patients are going home from the hospital sooner, but the savings are partially offset by higher doctor bills, a California study concludes. “Everybody directed their efforts at lowering hospital costs, but they missed the rising costs on the other side of the bill,” said John Showstack, one of four authors of the UC San Francisco study published in today’s Journal of the American Medical Assn.
