Morphine in his body may have left Jean-Marie Emebe insensitive to the battering he was taking when he lost a World Boxing Assn. title match to Virgil Hill at Bismarck, N.D., earlier this month, boxing officials said.
Hill pounded Emebe’s head throughout the nationally televised fight and knocked the French fighter down once before the bout was stopped in the 11th round.
Traces of morphine were found in a urine sample provided by Emebe after the bout, said Chuck Minker, director of the Nevada State Athletic Commission, which did the testing.
