From Times Wire Services

Chrysler Corp. said Friday it plans to move remaining production of its compact K-car--the auto that helped it avoid bankruptcy in the early 1980s--to Mexico.

Chrysler’s announcement came as it was negotiating a new contract with the United Auto Workers union. The shift will affect production at several Chrysler plants.

The union said that the company’s moving of production to Mexico next year threatens chances of an early contract settlement.Further, the union said, it increases the likelihood of a strike.
