Cal State L.A. Publisher Fired

Share

The actions taken by the administration of Cal State L.A. to strip the University Times of its editorial independence by applying the points of law enunciated in the Supreme Court’s Hazelwood decision and then by firing its publisher Joan Zyda are both distressing and bewildering (Metro, April 8).

How anomalous that a university where ideas and information, however critical, irreverent or unpopular should be allowed to flow unimpeded, now has relegated the University Times, its campus newspaper, to the function of public relations house organ for the school administration.

This alumnus (master’s degree in history, 1978) will register his disapproval by a resounding closing of the checkbook in response to President James Rosser’s next alumni pledge drive.
