For Jesus Poll, it was a brief detour. For Hugo Anguiano, it proved to be a road to main-event status.

Poll, the newest member of the Ten Goose Boxing stable in North Hollywood, had been scheduled to put his unbeaten record (15-0-2, five knockouts) on the line last month in a Reseda Country Club main event against Rodolfo Ortega.

Instead, Poll put his elbows on a ringside table and watched that main event, a spectator by virtue of a cut lip suffered in a sparring session.

Poll’s replacement was Anguiano, a Los Angeles fighter who was signed just three days before the bout. But despite his late entry and six consecutive ring defeats, Anguiano won a unanimous 10-round decision over Ortega.

Poll will return to action as part of the Country Club’s monthly card Tuesday night.

But so will Anguiano. They will fight in co-main events.

Poll, a Venezuelan living in North Hollywood, will face Miguel Juarez (30-10-3, 15 knockouts) of Los Angeles in a 10-round junior featherweight bout. Juarez is coming off a dominating performance against Allan Macitoki when the two met last month in Stockton. Juarez won a unanimous 10-round decision.

Anguiano (10-11-1, seven knockouts) will face Abe Gomez (10-0, five knockouts in his past five bouts) of Pacoima in a 10-round featherweight match.

Also on the card are junior welterweights Steve Lewis (4-2, three knockouts) of North Hollywood and Vince Dunphy (8-5, seven knockouts) of Butte, Mont., in a six-round fight. It will be Dunphy’s first fight in 1988 and third in the past three years.

There will be two lightweight preliminaries: one features Nate Hauser (5-1, two knockouts) of Beverly Hills and Tony Huggins (5-1, four knockouts) of Denver in a six-rounder; the other features Ruben Becerrada (1-0) of North Hollywood and Alonzo Hidalgo (making his pro debut) of Los Angeles in a four-round match.

First bell is scheduled for 8 p.m.
