Feldsteins on Minimum Wage
The Feldsteins’ column was utterly disgusting.
No recognition of the rise in rents, bus fare or food were recognized. Do they know what it costs to go to work for that salary, without any sick leave, hospital and health insurance? And we are worrying about the Contras and democracy!
It is bad for a country like America to hold people who would like to work down to such a miserable scale in 1988.
Training and advancement do not follow--believe me.
For economists to be so ignorant of what this miserable wage scale will buy to keep life and soul together does not say much for their profession.
