Profit was flat for Tandem Computers Inc....

Profit was flat for Tandem Computers Inc. in the second quarter, the Cupertino, Calif.-based company reported. Income totaled $23.3 million, compared to $22.4 million a year ago. The company cited a one-time pretax charge of $9.37 million, incurred in an agreement to settle a class-action suit brought against the company in 1984. The charge also produced a trim in first-half profit. For the half, earnings dipped to $47 million from $49.5 million.
