With the help of a sophisticated statewide computer identification system, a man on the San Diego Police Department’s top 10 list of most-wanted fugitives has been identified in a jail cell in El Cajon, police spokesman Bill Robinson said.

Ernest Lupe Brand, alias Raul Gutierrez, was being sought in connection with a no-bail warrant from the California Department of Corrections charging violation of parole and armed robbery, allegedly committed in Chula Vista last June.

Police Detective Mike Dean located Gutierrez, who was in custody in the County Jail on Wednesday in El Cajon on an unrelated charge, by running his fingerprints through the statewide Cal-Identification System, which has access to hundreds of thousands of fingerprints, Robinson said.

Brand had been scheduled for release from the El Cajon facility May 23. Now, he will probably have to serve two more years, Robinson said.
