Police in the Philippines detained an Iranian and an Iraqi outside the U.S. Clark Air Base after Israel’s Mossad intelligence agency warned that Palestine Liberation Organization guerrillas were planning weekend attacks on U.S. servicemen. American and Philippine officials tightened security around the base, deploying extra security forces, bomb-sniffing dogs and additional sandbags around its four gates. A police spokesman said the two men, both 32, were riding a bus from Manila to Angeles City, just outside the base, on Friday night when police stopped the vehicle at a checkpoint. Both were detained when they were unable to produce passports or visas.
