Pan American World Airways’ flight attendants union has rejected a new contract calling for substantial wage reduction and productivity improvements, the company said. Thomas G. Plaskett, chairman of the parent Pan Am Corp., said: “Apparently, a large number of flight attendants still fail to realize the critical condition of Pan Am’s financial position.” Meanwhile, Northwest Airlines said it has reached a tentative four-year contract agreement covering its 10,000 mechanics and ground-service employees. The company also said it has signed a contract with the union representing 6,700 flight attendants.
