Arts and entertainment reports from The Times, national and international news services and the nation's press

The continued success of the controversial “Colors” helped boost Orion Pictures to the top spot of a generally slow weekend of moviegoing. “Colors” knocked Warner Bros.’ “Beetlejuice” out of the No. 1 position. Now, Warner Bros. and Universal with two titles each among the Top Five are leading the pack of studios. Last year’s leaders, Paramount and Walt Disney, are way back.

* Tri-Star Pictures’ Bruce Willis-James Garner vehicle “Sunset” had a soft opening weekend, despite the starpower and director (Blake Edwards). Reviews, however, were mixed.
