Foodmaker, which owns and operates Jack in the Box restaurants, reported that net income rose by 29% to $4.6 million for the second quarter ended April 10, up from $3.6 million during the previous second quarter. Revenue rose by 8.7% to $150 million, up from $138 million a year ago.

Net income for the first half of the fiscal year increased by 97% to $7.8 million, up from $4 million during the like period a year ago. Revenue for the period rose by 7% to $345 million, up from $308 million.

Foodmaker’s second-quarter earnings report did not include revenue or earnings from Chi-Chi’s, the Mexican dinner house chain that Foodmaker acquired on April 5 for $235 million, and whose financial statements will be incorporated into Foodmaker’s beginning in the third quarter.

Chi-Chi’s reported a $9.2-million net profit for the nine-month period ended Jan. 31. The chain reported a $5.7-million net loss during the same period a year ago.
