National Merit Scholarships Go to 3 Area Students
Three area high school seniors have won scholarships in the 32nd annual Merit Program of the National Merit Scholarship Corp.
Duke Whang of Herbert Hoover High School in Glendale has been awarded a $2,000 National Merit Scholarship.
Michael M. Lowe of La Canada High School and Kimberly D. Grover of Crescenta Valley High School are the recipients of corporate-sponsored Merit Scholarships. Lowe received his scholarship from the Security Pacific Foundation and Grover from the USG Corp.; both organizations support Merit Scholarships for children of company employees.
The three students were selected as finalists from a pool of 15,000 national semifinalists, representing the top half of 1% of each state’s high school graduating class.
Recipients of college-sponsored Merit Scholarships will be announced early this month.
