Bob Lohr, the first starter, shot a two-under-par 70 Thursday and held the lead when wind forced an overnight postponement of second-round play in the $1,388,889 Las Vegas Invitational golf tournament.

Play was held up at 4:44 p.m., PDT, when winds the National Weather Service said were gusting as high as 55 m.p.h. started blowing golf balls off the greens.

The postponement forced tournament officials to reduce the event from its scheduled 90 holes to 72.

The 71 players who did not complete their rounds marked their positions on the three courses used for this event and will return this morning to complete second-round play.

The third round was moved back to Saturday. After that, the field will be cut to the low 70 scorers and ties, and the amateurs will be eliminated for Sunday’s final round at the Las Vegas Country Club.

Lohr completed two rounds in 136. Peter Jacobsen, another early starter, had a 66 at Desert Inn and was one shot back.

Ben Crenshaw shot a 69 at Desert Inn and was tied at 138 with Keith Clearwater, who shot a 70 at Spanish Trail.

Craig Stadler and Tony Sills were at 139. Sills had a 68 at Spanish Trail, Stadler a 71 at Las Vegas Country Club.

Greg Norman shot a 40 on the front nine at Spanish Trail, the course affected most by the wind, after an opening-round 68.
