Local News in Brief : CCC on a Hiring Spree
To gear up for this year’s fire season, the California Conservation Corps is conducting a special statewide hiring of young adults today at local offices, including those in Huntington Park, San Fernando, Van Nuys and Wilmington.
“We’re looking at a very critical fire year and want to have as many corps members as possible trained to help out,” Director Bud Sheble said.
Applicants should be between 18 and 23 and not on probation or parole. Free medical exams will be provided, and those hired will be on the job in two weeks. Along with fighting fires, the workers build parks and trails, plant trees, restore historic buildings and build city playgrounds.
