Chamber Season Will Open With Stravinsky Suite

Conductor Micah Levy will open the Orange County Chamber Orchestra’s 1988-89 season Nov. 6 with the Suite from Stravinsky’s “Pulcinella,” orchestra officials announced this week.

Included in the opening performance will be Mozart’s Piano Concerto No. 27, with soloist Peter Vinograde, and Vaughan Williams’ “Fantasia on a Theme by Tallis.” The program will be repeated Nov. 7.

Sunday performances during the chamber’s season will be held at 4 p.m. at St. Joseph Center on the campus of Loyola Marymount University in Orange. Monday concerts will be held at 8 p.m. at South Coast Repertory Theatre in Costa Mesa.

The season will continue with the following programs:

--Jan. 15-16, 1989: Cellist Ronald Leonard in Tartini’s Concerto in A for Cello, Bloch’s Prayer and Boccherini’s Concerto in D for Cello; also: Telemann’s Suite in F and Toru Takemitsu’s Requiem.

--March 12-13: Haydn’s Symphony No. 83 (“Poule”); Williams’ “Five Variants of ‘Dives and Lazarus’ ”; Ellen Taaffe Zwilich’s Prologue and Variations, and Bach’s Concerto in D minor for Two Violins, with soloists Diana Halprin and Joseph Goodman.

--April 30-May 1: Harpsichordist Jennifer Paul in Bach’s Concerto in F minor and Carlos de Seixas’ Concerto in A minor; Mozart’s Symphony No. 41 (“Jupiter”), and Grieg’s “Holberg Suite.”

Season tickets range from $50 to $55 for general admission; $40 to $45 for seniors and students.
