The Australian Parliament, which has worked in “temporary” quarters throughout its 87-year history, finally moved into a permanent home in Canberra after Queen Elizabeth II opened a $760-million structure with gold-plated keys. About 20,000 people gathered outside the new chambers to watch the opening, marked by a land-rights protest by a chanting group of several hundred aborigines.
