A six-month suspension imposed on auto racing star A. J. Foyt was lifted by NASCAR, eight days after the penalty was leveled following a fender-banging incident in the Winston 500.

Les Richter, NASCAR vice president for competition, announced the decision following a review of the incident late in the race at Talladega, Ala.

While the suspension that would have sidelined Foyt for the remainder of the NASCAR season was lifted, a fine of $5,000 was increased to $7,500, the statement said.
