The owner of a Pasadena ambulance company has been sentenced to four years’ probation and fined $16,000 for inflating ambulance bills reimbursed through the federal Medicare program.

Clarence Olson, 56, of Alta Loma, who owns Guardian Ambulance Service, pleaded no contest to 32 counts of making false claims to Medicare, the federal program that subsidizes health care for the elderly.

Assistant U.S. Atty. Brian Hennigan said that Olson inflated “a couple thousand” bills by about $16 each. He was sentenced Monday by U.S. District Judge Ferdinand F. Fernandez.
