Local News in Brief : Tustin : Fireman’s Fun Muster, Armed Forces Day Set

The Tustin Marine Corps Air Station will be the site Saturday of the Preseason Fireman’s Fun Muster, featuring equipment displays from several area fire departments and competition in such events as the bucket brigade.

The competition will begin at 9 a.m. and is open to the public. It is sponsored by the station’s crash, fire and rescue unit and fire department, and by the Santa Ana Fire Department.

On Sunday, the station will mark Armed Forces Day with an open house featuring displays of modern and vintage aircraft and ground support equipment, as well as entertainment by the 1st Marine Division Band, a USO show, helicopter flying demonstrations, an exhibition of more than 300 classic automobiles and a raffle benefiting the Navy Relief Fund.

The day begins at 8 a.m. with a 5- and 10-kilometer run. Entry fees are $8 with T-shirt, $6 without, increasing to $8 and $10 on the day of the race. (Same-day registration will be held from 6:30 to 7:30 a.m.) A pancake breakfast begins at 10 a.m. Events are expected to last through the afternoon.

Armed Forces Day officially is celebrated on the third Saturday of May and honors all branches of the U.S. Armed Forces. First observed in 1950, the holiday replaced separate celebrations for the Air Force, Army and Navy.
