W. Covina Schools Meetings ‘a Joke’

Share

I am writing in regard to your April 17 article on Peter P. Sabatino, newly seated board member of the West Covina Unified School District.

Sabatino proposed informal town meetings to get the community more involved and ease tensions. Are the school board meetings examples of involvement and easing of anxiety? Does one want involvement if the board does not examine information brought to it, or if the board does not answer the questions of the community at the time they are asked?

When input is brought to the board, the board members just sit there and show no interest. I’ve heard of games, but this is a joke.

Sabatino, do you really want to help the children of West Covina, or just be another puppet? Joe Mount, the president of the board, made it clear last month that the input of the community was a waste of time. Even though he later apologized, it seems his first statement was more to the truth.

Is this also your true feeling? I hope for education’s sake, it is not.
