Local News in Brief : Annexation Move Ended

Share

The Glendora City Council has terminated an effort to annex two county areas on the western fringe of the city after the majority of registered voters in both neighborhoods submitted letters of protest.

In one neighborhood, composed of 106 homes on 25 acres on the southwest corner of Glendora, more than 69% of the 144 registered voters formally protested inclusion in the city. A mile to the north, more than 60% of the 158 voters in an 86-acre tract containing 67 large, ranch-style homes opposed annexation.

During public hearings, residents of the two eastern San Gabriel Valley areas said they were content to live under county administration. Some residents objected to the city’s ban on overnight street parking. Others said they feared the city would prohibit them from keeping horses and other livestock on their property, despite assurances from city officials that this would not happen.
