American Health Services, Newport Beach, posted a quarterly profit from continuing operations for the first time, but a provision for discontinued operations and research and development costs resulted in a net loss of $791,698 for the first quarter. For the same period last year, the company had a loss of $1.1 million. Revenue increased to $3.2 million from the $1.3 million reported for the first quarter last year. American Health, which began operations in 1985, operates diagnostic and treatment centers through joint ventures with hospitals, health maintenance organizations, multi-specialty clinics and physician group practices.
