Companies with fewer than 100 workers increased employment at a faster rate than large businesses during the latter half of 1987, but the number of new small firms decreased sharply during the period, according to a study by the American Express Small Business Partnership. Employment among small companies rose by 1.9% during the last six months of 1987, compared with an increase of 0.6% for larger businesses. During the latter half of 1987, new small business incorporations plunged 7.71%.
