Former USC basketball coach Bob Boyd, who also coached at Seattle University and Mississippi State, is expected to come out of retirement and take the Riverside Community College job for one season, school officials said Thursday.

Boyd, 57, will announce his decision at a press conference today, a college spokesman said.

Boyd, who lives in Palm Desert, retired from coaching at Mississippi State in 1985. He would fill in for David Waxman, who has been granted a sabbatical leave.

Boyd, after coaching at Seattle, spent 13 years as USC’s coach and had a 216-131 record. He left USC in 1979. He played at USC in 1950-52, leading the Trojans in scoring his final two seasons.
