A mistrial was declared in the criminal trial of New York sports agent Norby Walters in Tuscaloosa, Ala., after lawyers for the state and the defense said that they were negotiating a settlement.

Walters, 56, faces three misdemeanor charges--commercial bribery, violation of deceptive trade law and tampering with a sports event--for his dealings with former Alabama basketball players Derrick McKey and Terry Coner.
