The Claremont Graduate School held its 61st graduation ceremony Saturday in Bridges Auditorium. Degrees were conferred on 5,147 students, including 4,427 undergraduates, 300 masters, 150 doctoral and 270 professional candidates.

Keynote Speaker: Roger Rosenblatt, senior writer and essayist at Time magazine, said: “The people who bring the most life into the world through their work are those who look upon their work as a persistently new enterprise, a wholly original enterprise--the way the God of Genesis must have reguarded space. An attitude like that prevents such people from being swallowed up, or lost in, or embittered by the minutiae of their assignments. Its holds off the professional myopia that can destroy careers.”

Honorary Degrees:

Rosenblatt.

Matina Horner, president of Radcliffe College.

Donald Rumsfeld, former Secretary of Defense under President Ford and currently senior advisor to William Blair and Company.
