The body of a man who apparently committed suicide by driving off a mountain highway in Wrightwood was identified Saturday as that of a La Puente resident wanted for strangling his ex-girlfriend, Los Angeles authorities said.

Michael Morrison, 18, was discovered Friday morning in a car at the bottom of a ravine 200 feet below California 2 in the San Bernardino Mountains, Sheriff’s Deputy Kathryn Nielsen said.

Sheriff’s homicide detectives had been searching for Morrison since Tuesday when the body of his former girlfriend, Kristine Adams, 20, was found in a closet in his La Puente home. She had been strangled with an electric fan cord.

Morrison apparently deliberately sped off the highway’s embankment to his death while driving Adams’ car, Nielsen said.

The motive for the slaying was not known. Nielsen said the couple had at one time been romantically involved but had recently broken up.
