Stevens Wins 5 Races, Including A Gleam Handicap With Integra
Integra, one of five winners ridden by Gary Stevens Saturday at Hollywood Park, drew away with one furlong left to beat Behind The Scenes by 1 3/4 lengths in the $79,950 A Gleam Handicap before a crowd of 35,090.
It was the second straight stakes victory for the 4-year-old Kentucky-bred filly over Behind The Scenes. On April 16, Stevens guided Integra to a 6 1/2-length win in the Santa Lucia Handicap at Santa Anita.
Time for the 7 furlongs was 1:23, and Integra, who carried high weight of 118, paid $3.40, $2.60 and $2.20.
First place was worth $46,200 to owner George Aubin, and it increased Integra’s total earnings to $139,750. Integra has won five of seven starts under trainer Henry Moreno.
Behind The Scenes, ridden by Rafael Meza, finished two lengths ahead of Carol’s Wonder and returned $3.40 and $2.60. Carol’s Wonder, ridden by Eddie Delahoussaye, paid $2.60.
Stevens, who rode Winning Colors to victory in the Kentucky Derby a week earlier, had his first five-victory afternoon since Jan. 30 at Santa Anita. Since his return from Louisville, Stevens has ridden 14 winners in 36 starts.
His other victories Saturday were aboard Kryos in the third, Anniversary Wish in the fourth, In Focus in the fifth and Hot Stage in the ninth.
