Also dropping out of the political chase Monday was Republican Gov. John H. Sununu, who helped the vice president win the crucial New Hampshire GOP primary Feb. 16.

In a surprise move, Sununu, 48, announced in Concord that he will not seek a fourth two-year term. He said he will leave office at the end of his term in January so that he can get a job in the “real world” and spend more time with his family.

“I said when I first ran that I was not going to die an old politician but an old engineer,” the former engineering professor told a packed Statehouse news conference as his wife, Nancy, stood with him.
