Local News in Brief : Huntington Beach : Dwyer Middle School Given Leadership Role

Share

Dwyer Middle School has become one of 10 middle, or junior high, schools in the state named as “foundation schools” to help improve sixth-through eighth-grade education throughout California.

Dwyer is in the Huntington Beach City Elementary School District.

State Supt. of Public Instruction Bill Honig said the 10 schools were selected by the state Department of Education. Each foundation school will help all other middle schools in its region, Honig said. Dwyer will be responsible for assisting all middle schools and junior highs in Orange County.

A spokeswoman for the Department of Education said one goal of the foundation schools is to improve communication among middle schools. Another goal, she said, is for the schools to share “innovative and more effective instructional strategies for middle-grade students.”
