Chicago Bulls guard Michael Jordan was named the league’s player of the year by the Sporting News. Jordan received 155 of 206 votes cast by National Basketball Assn. players, easily outpolling Boston Celtics forward Larry Bird, who had 26 votes, and Laker guard Magic Johnson, who had 15.
