****Excellent***Good**Fair*Poor : Recent releases, reviewed by Times critics. : Sports : *** “Final Four: The Movie.” JCI. $49.99.
A video retrospective of the NCAA basketball tournament since its inception in 1939, this “movie” covers the teams that reached the “final four” each year. Through film clips and interviews, hoop fans get a chance to relive UCLA’s amazing seven straight championships, Magic Johnson’s classic showdown with Larry Bird in the 1979 finals, and Villanova’s stunning victory over Georgetown in 1985. However, 50 years of highlights in 90 minutes was a lot to take in: The producers should have trimmed some of the clips from the ‘40s and early ‘50s in favor of the more exciting and technically polished footage from the last three decades. Still, this is a fairly invigorating fast break down memory lane.
