Local News in Brief : Anaheim : City Sues, Alleging Parking Garage Faults

Share

The city of Anaheim filed a $50-million lawsuit Friday against the engineers and architects of a three-story parking garage next to the Anaheim Convention Center. The suit alleges that negligence during construction has left the 6-year-old structure in need of major repairs.

The suit, filed in Orange County Superior Court, accuses project engineers Ertzan Associates; CD Investment Co., the general contractors and architects; CD III, the developer, as well as several other firms of breach of contract and negligence during construction of the garage on Katella Avenue.

City officials said the 1,528-space parking structure, which still is in use, presents no safety hazard but is showing signs of premature age, including small cracks in the foundation and uneven concrete slabs.

Estimates on the cost of repairs have not been determined, city officials said.

The garage was built by developers in 1982 in return for use of city-owned property to build the Hilton Hotel and another parking structure.

Representatives of the firms named in the suit could not be reached for comment Friday.
