Local News in Brief : Orange : Hospital to Offer ‘Kid Safe Saturday’

Tips on how children can avoid accidents and handle emergencies will be offered today at a safety skills festival at Childrens Hospital of Orange County in Orange.

The sessions will be led by hospital staff, police and firefighters. These emergency service personnel will provide instruction for children on how to limit damage from a fire, avoid traffic accidents and handle water mishaps.

The hospital’s program is part of today’s so-called “Kid Safe Saturday” being held throughout the state. In Orange County, the program is being co-sponsored by Carl Karcher Enterprises.

Parents are welcome to come with their children so they can learn such safety tips as how to perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation, traffic safety skills, drug dangers and drowning prevention skills.

Fingerprints and photographs will be made at no charge to help identify children should they ever turn up missing.

The “Kid Safe Saturday” morning session will be from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. at the hospital at 455 S. Main St. The afternoon program will last from 1:30 to 4:30 p.m. Classes will be held on the hour and half-hour.
