War Memorabilia From Civil War to Vietnam Exhibited in Whittier

“Whittier Goes to War!” a collection of uniforms, photographs, newspapers, documents and memorabilia, is being featured at Whittier Museum, 6755 Newlin Ave. The exhibit surveys the participation of Whittier residents in wars, from the Civil War through Vietnam.

Because of Whittier’s Quaker heritage, a museum spokesman said, some people have mistakenly assumed that Quakers did not participate in war, but many residents were active as noncombatants and were assigned through the American Friends Service Committee of the American Red Cross.

Many items have been loaned featuring Whittier ancestors, including a published book of Civil War letters and a photograph of Spanish-American War soldiers.
