Board Approval of Development Pacts

Share

The decision of the Board of Supervisors to approve agreements that give certain developers the ability to construct their projects as planned, regardless of the outcome of the slow-growth initiative, is regrettable.

The issue is not just whether or not the developments are good or bad. The bigger issue is the fact that the board wants to create special exemptions for favored developers in the event the public would vote for curbs on haphazard growth in June.

Democracy suffered a blow with this decision. But as President Reagan so often points out, the rights of a democratic, free people to control their own destiny will always win out in the end over those who choose to rule by tyranny.
