World Trade & Data Inc., a San Francisco consulting firm, is compiling a list of more than 2,000 U.S. investment and financial services in a directory for overseas Asian investors.

“Invest-America 1988-89,” which will be published in English, Japanese and Chinese, will focus on U.S. investment sectors that include commercial and investment banking, private banking, venture capital, mutual funds, residential and commercial estate, and money management.

“The popular notion is that Asian investors buy large pieces of U.S. real estate,” said Michael Chao, president of World Trade & Data, “but corporate stocks and bonds and U.S. Treasury securities constitute the largest portion of Asia’s investment portfolio. By 1990, total Asian investment in the U.S. will reach over $300 billion.”
